The $445 million Mega Millions jackpot—who won it?

THE NEW YORK Even as the Mega Millions jackpot grows to almost $500 million, there is still no winner.

After several months without a grand prize winner, the winning numbers for Tuesday’s $445 million Mega Millions jackpot have been announced.

The winning combination on Tuesday was 3-7-11-13-38, Mega Ball 1, and Megaplier 3.

The jackpot increased to an estimated $494 million after the drawing on Tuesday night, or $248.7 million if the winner chooses the more common cash prize. This is reportedly the second-largest jackpot in the lottery’s history.

Since July 29, when a single ticket bought in a Chicago suburb won a $1.337 billion payout, no one has ever won the Mega Millions jackpot.

Also on Tuesday, none of the winning tickets for $1 million had a five-number match. Nearly 50 tickets earned $10,000, and five won $30,000 total.

A player must match all five numbers plus the gold Mega Ball number in order to win the Mega Millions top prize. Players have impossibly long odds of winning the jackpot: 1 out of 320,5 million.

With another Mega million drawing on Friday, players will have another opportunity to win the big prize.

As its own winless run continues, Powerball has an estimated $420 million jackpot up for grabs on Wednesday, bringing the jackpot closer to the top 10 highest Powerball jackpots ever won. The award has a $215.2 million cash value.

On Monday, no one took home the $1 million Powerball jackpot, but three players from Florida, Illinois, and Minnesota bought winning tickets before the drawing that night. Due to the power play, a fourth winner on Iowa’s ticket is worth $2 million.

While this week’s Mega Millions and Powerball prizes totaled more than $400 million each, neither was as large as the nearly record-breaking $1.377 billion Mega Millions jackpot that sent Americans into a lottery frenzy in July of last year. The top reward was claimed by a winner in Illinois. Last month, two persons expressed interest in claiming it but opted to remain nameless.
